Description: Published by authority and direction of the General Council.Chahta Tamaha, 1869. This volume contains the constitution and amendments of 1862, laws in force, and the 1855 and 1866 treaties with the United States. There was no treaty of 1865. On p. 334 there appears an act of October 31, 1860, which was omitted from the sessional issue printed at Boggy Depot in 1861. The volume was commonly known, from the initials of its compiler, as the J.P. code. Chahta Tahaha (that is, Choctaw Town,) the seat of Armstrong Academy, three and a half miles northeast of the present town of Bokchito, Oklahoma, was the capital of the Choctaw Nation from 1863 to 1883. Ref.: Hargrett, 122. Rebound in buckram, the pages are beginning to brown along the edges with very mild foxing throughout. The front blank has some dampstaining to its edges with the previous owner's name and address. The rear blank has some pencil notations. [Loc.21]

Description: Octavo. [1], 508 pages. Brown sheepskin leather binding. Black leather label with gilt stamped title on the spine. Restored. Front and rear boards attached with brown mulberry paper visible in the front and rear joints. The inner hinges repaired. Leather is chipped head and base of the spine. Some edge and shelf wear to the boards. Spotting on the foredge. Interior contents are clean and in very good condition. Contents are a comprehensive compilation of the previous treaties, Constitution and laws to date. In the preface the compiler hopes for an edition in the Choctaw language in the future but this copy is in English. Hargrett 122.
