Description: Edge and surface wear to the cover. The image and letting on the cover is beginning to fade. The corners have been bumped and the boards are beginning to show there. There's a small tear at the top of the spine above the word 'Futher'. The pages have foxing and are beginning to yellow. There is some creasing to the spine. The binding is lose with several cracks throughout the book and a small tilt, but the pages are secure. The worse of the cracks is at the beginning of the book, at the cover, that is beginning to show the binding. There's a tear on the inside of the back cover at the spine that's beginning to show the binding. Stock photos may not look exactly like the book.

Description: 306, [6] p. 20 cm. Colour frontispiece. Grey cloth hardcover with gold lettering and pasted-on illustration. Some wear and soiling to exterior, including rubbing to illustration. Frontispiece detached. Rear hinge cracked internally and there is no rear free endpaper. Soiling and thumbing to margins throughout. A well-read copy of this classic. The stories not published in this collection were used by Page to produce "Further Chronicles of Avonlea" without Montgomery's permission in 1920.

There are six pages of advertisements at the back. Condition: Some light soiling / staining to the covers and spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. There is an insignificant crack at the front hinge between the bibliography page and frontispiece - despite the crack, the front cover is still firmly attached and is not shaky. Nice interior - the text pages are lightly age-toned and clean with only an occasional, random light foxing spot and smudge to a small number of pages; page 181 has a tiny piece that has torn away at the bottom edge. There is an old inscription written in pen dated 1914 on the front end paper. The rear end paper has few illegible words written in pen in tiny handwriting at the upper-inner corner.below the handwriting is a small piece of paper remnant. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.

Most of top 1.75" and bottom 4" of spine perished with a few additional chips to edges of jacket (chip to rear panel affecting a few words). Rear panel advertisement "Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, the Story Girl, Kilmeny of the Orchard". Textblock edges slightly foxed, fore-edge uncut. Previous owner's signature dated in the year of publication on ffep. Endpapers and first few pages light foxed with a few additional bits of foxing internally, else a clean copy. very good An exceptional L.M. Montgomery rarity in the dust jacket. Until this copy, and a better example,in this catalogue, the jacket of the true first edition of Chronicles of Avonlea had not been seen by us. Unrecorded in Editions and Impressions. Although the jacket spine is missing portions, the remainder of the jacket is virtually complete and the front panel illustration remains bright and unfaded.
