Description: 4to (8.5 x 13 inches). Pp. 79. Loose leaves in a bright yellow Fabriano wrapper, title printed in orange. Colophon features a woodcut world map, 1472, presented here 500 years later. In the robin's-egg blue silk clamshell box, printed title label on the front panel, interior lined with bright orange silk. Designed and published by Lewis and Dorothy Allen. One of 140 copies. In pop culture, Kazantzakis is perhaps best known for his novel Zorba the Greek, which was successfully adapted to stage and screen. Christopher Columbus was published posthumously, in 1969, being one of a couple plays brought to print by the author's widow, Helen. Columbus is partially set at the court of Queen Isabella and involves Captain Alonso and Captain Juan, among the dramatis personae. Kazantzakis was born on Crete and is buried there, above Heraklion.
