First Edition uncommon collection of sacred songs and Christmas themed poems by various authors, including William Shakespeare, John Milton, William Drummond, and more.Includes an engraving title page depicting a painting by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbina (Raphel).Edited by Sara Coleridge, the daughter of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.Inscribed personal message from previous owners to the verso of the front endpaper. 'To Lady Ottoline, with love from Bob & Kyrle'. Gifted to Lady Ottoline Morrell from Robert (Bob) Gathorne-Hardy and Kyrle Leng, members of the English aristocracy and elite in the early twentieth century. Morrell was the first cousin twice removed of Queen Elizabeth II, and was largely involved in the Bloomsbury Group, providing inspiration for many fictional characters in the works of Aldous Huxley, D. H. Lawrence and Graham Greene.Four pages of adverts to the rear. Original publishers cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing. Significant bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in a little loss to the head of the spine. Crack along the front joint and to the spine. Spine is faded and slightly worn. Some fading to the boards. Some marks to the front board and minor marks to the rear board. Front hinge is starting but firm. Bookseller's label to the rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with a few scattered spots. Good
