Description: Litografia originale a piena pagina ed a colori impressa su carta Arches. Tavola fuori testo per "Chagall lithographe II". L'inizio della produzione litografica di Chagall risale al periodo di Berlino (1922-1923) ma fu nel 1946, negli Stati Uniti, che Chagall accettò di illustrare "Le mille e una notte": le tredici tavole del volume segnarono i suoi primi passi nella litografia a colori. Di ritorno a Parigi nel 1950, l'artista si recò dallo stampatore Fernand Mourlot, al quale si deve in gran parte il rilancio della litografia nel dopoguerra. Dal 1950 al 1952 Chagall frequentò assiduamente l'atelier di Mourlot dove imparò tutti i segreti del mestiere. Le prove di quel periodo furono stampate in pochi esemplari o distrutte, poiché lo scopo dell'artista non era quello di realizzare opere finite ma di impadronirsi della tecnica. Tra il 1922 e il 1985 Marc Chagall realizzò 1500 litografie. Molte litografie di Chagall furono realizzate con venti / venticinque colori e testimoniano l'enorme lavoro dell'artista: nessuno prima di lui raggiunse una perfezione tale da associare all'ineguagliabile ispirazione la completa padronanza della tecnica. Chagall fece della litografia non un mezzo per moltiplicare le sue opere, ma uno strumento necessario a una creazione che non poteva essere espressa in alcun altro modo. L'artista non realizzò quasi mai bozzetti preliminari per le sue litografie e da ciò derivano l'incanto e la spontaneità creatrice dei suoi lavori. I quattro volumi "Chagall litographe", da cui è tratto il foglio in esame, furono realizzati da Fernand Mourlot e Charles Sorlier (André Sauret editore) tra il 1960 e il 1974. Ogni volume cataloga le litografie realizzate da Chagall in un determinato periodo temporale ed è arricchito da diverse litografie originali inserite nei volumi come tavole fuori testo. Esemplare in edizione corrente, perfetto stato conservativo e margini editoriali.

Description: Boldly signed and dated by Marc Chagall in black ink on half title - with a large, bold signature. One of 150 copies of the limited edition. The book is complete with all 12 lithographs (11 in text, plus jacket). A very good copy in a near fine jacket, complete with original clear plastic outer jacket (book has some minor bumping to edges; jacket has some wear and tiny tears to edges). This copy does not have the slipcase, or the chemise with the two signed prints.
