Two first edition volumes of illustrated catalogues of the works of German-born American artist Karl Schrag, characterised by the National Gallery of Art as 'among the most important printmakers in America during the 1950s'. Schrag studied at art school Atelier 17, where his fellow students included Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, and Jackson Pollock.With the 1971 'Catalogue Raisonne of the Graphic Works, 1939-1970', in bright cloth covered boards with very scarcepublisher's original slip case, and the much slighter volume II, a Catalogue Raisonne of his works from 1971-1980. Both are illustrated throughout with plates of Schrag's works. Volume I features five colour plates.Loosely inserted is a small pamphlet for an exhibition of Schrag's 'recent prints and monotypes', held March 8 - April 5, 1980 in New York. With volume I in publisher's original cloth covered boards with cloth covered slip case, and volume II in the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, bright and clean. Sehr guter Zustand. - Claire Goll (geb. Clara Aischmann) (* 29. Oktober 1890 in Nürnberg; † 30. Mai 1977 in Paris) war eine deutsch-französische Schriftstellerin und Journalistin und die Ehefrau des Dichters Yvan Goll. Leben und Werk: m Jahr 1911 heiratete Clara Aischmann den späteren Verleger Heinrich Studer und lebte mit ihm in Leipzig. Im Mai 1912 wurde ihre Tochter Dorothea Elisabeth (genannt Doralies) Studer geboren. 1916 emigrierte sie als Pazifistin in die Schweiz, wo sie an der Universität Genf studierte, sich in der Friedensbewegung engagierte und journalistisch zu arbeiten begann. 1917 lernte sie den Dichter Yvan Goll kennen. Ende 1918 hatte sie eine Affäre mit Rainer Maria Rilke, mit dem sie bis zu dessen Tod freundschaftlich verbunden war. Im Jahr 1918 erschien ihr erster Gedichtband Mitwelt und der Erzählungsband Die Frauen erwachen. Mit Yvan Goll ging sie 1919 nach Paris, wo beide 1921 heirateten. Ihre Erzählungen, Gedichte und Romane erschienen auch in französischer Sprache. Ihre Gedichtbände Poèmes d'amour (1925), Poèmes de la jalousie (1926) und Poèmes de la vie et de la mort schrieb sie gemeinsam mit ihrem Ehemann als Wechselgesang der Liebe. Claire und Yvan Goll (beide waren jüdischer Herkunft) flohen 1939 zu Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs vor den Nationalsozialisten ins Exil nach New York. Erst 1947 kehrten sie wieder nach Paris zurück, wo Yvan Goll 1950 starb. Nach dem Tod von Yvan Goll widmete sich Claire Goll zunehmend dem Werk ihres Mannes – wobei sie Texte manipulierte und Daten fälschte. Ihre autobiographischen Romane Der gestohlene Himmel (1962) und Traumtänzerin (1971) fanden kaum Beachtung. Für Aufsehen sorgte hingegen ihr Streit mit Paul Celan, bekannt als „Goll-Affäre". Claire Goll warf Celan vor, er habe Yvan Goll plagiiert, was sich als unwahr herausstellte. Für ein gewisses Aufsehen sorgten auch Claire Golls Memoiren Ich verzeihe keinem. Eine literarische Chronique scandaleuse unserer Zeit (La Poursuite du Vent, 1976). Goll verstarb 1977 und wurde auf dem Pariser Friedhof Père Lachaise beigesetzt; ihr Grabstein trägt eine Zeichnung von Marc Chagall. Seit ihrem Tod widmen sich auch verstärkt Literaturwissenschaftler und Zeithistoriker ihrem Nachlass.
