Zululand was a monarchy in Southern Africa and Transvaal was a province of South Africa from 1910 to 1994. This volume is a non-fiction book which was Haggard's first full-length published work based on his time working in South Africa.Cetywayo refers to the Zulu King Cetshwayo who was king of the Zulu Kingdom during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, worn with marks to the boards and spine and rubbing to the joints and spine and bumping to the head and tail of the spine. W. R. Brown stamps to the half title page, front endpapers and Z. A. Beer stamp to the title page. Front hinge starting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages. This copy is in the scarcer variant blue cloth which may have only been used for Colonial sales. General fairly light wear with some marks, mostly on the front board. Interesting small bookseller's label from Sydney on front pastedown and contemporary owner's name and address (in New South Wales) on half-title page. A very acceptable copy with no splitting or cracking. Used - Good. Good hardback in blue cloth

Description: Second edition of the author's first book. Print run of 1000 copies ( Whatmore ). Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering to upper board and spine. With a new 72 page Introduction discussing in part the changes in South Africa in the five years since the 1st edition. A solid and bright copy. The boards on this copy are bright and unfaded, showing rubbing at the corners and the occasional innocuous mark. The gilt lettering on the upper board is bold. The spine is bruised at the ends. Internally bright and fresh - there is a discreet ownership inscription on the ffe and light spotting to the opening and closing few pages. Tightly bound. A nice copy. PayPal accepted.
