Price: US$265.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: DJ chips around edges, spine top and bottom, some foxing front endpapers, text block. slightly cocked From the inside flap: When Paul Cohen-Portheim's Spirit of London made its appearance a few years ago, it was hailed as, both in letterpress and illustration, the perfect " portrait of a city.". In his Spirit of Paris, previously published in Germany but now appearing in English for the first time, the author employed a very similar method, which has resulted in an unbiased and at the same time perhaps more revealing and authentic portrait of the French capital than has been achieved before. Cohen-Portheim was equally at home with workmen, students, artists, middle-class people and that high cosmopolitan society that always has Paris for its centre. His sympathy with these classes enabled him to describe the occupations, amusements and milieu of each with complete fidelity, while his coolly critical yet appreciative eye could note down every significant detail in that brilliant ensemble that makes Paris the most beautiful of capital cities.
