Description: A folding poetry sheet. The Interrogator and its attendant drawings by Leonard Baskin form part of the Cave Birds sequence of poems written by Ted Hughes for the Ilkeley Literature Festival, 1975. The poem and drawing are here published for the first time by permission of poet and artist. This sheet and the facsimile of an early handwritten draft of The Interrogator were printed for the festival by The Scolar Press in an edition of 250 copies. This copy is not numbered, but is instead marked 'out of series'. Apologies for the cropped images, this item is larger than the plate on our scanner.

Description: Drawings by Leonard Baskin One of [about 125] numbered copies of which 100 for sale, signed by the author and the artist Elephant folio Sight spotting and marking to a few of the plates, not affecting images, some wear and scratches to the lower cover of the folder, otherwise a very nice copy. Presentation Copy, inscribed by the author in the year of publication: "To Dodo & Eric with lots of love from Ted and Carol 17th August 1975" The inscription is to the author s close friend Eric Walter White, the poet, editor, translator and composer, and his wife Dorothy. This sumptuous production comprises ten poems each with a facsimile of the author s manuscript or typescript tipped-in on the facing page, loose as issued in original paper-covered boards folder with printed label, folio, this laid into a well in a larger burlap covered folding box (with printed label and ties) which also contains, loose as issued, the ten drawings on larger paper and the main title-page (tissue guard missing). This copy furthermore contains a Scolar Press flyer advertising the book (lightly spotted).

Description: First edition. Illustrated with lithographs by Leonard Baskin. Housed in an elephant folio burlap clamshell box measuring 21" x 29". Hughes' 10 poems are printed on bifoliums measuring 14" x 20" closed, with a facsimile of a draft laid down facing each poem, and are laid into a slightly larger chemise with another bifolium featuring the title and colophon page. Baskin's lithographs are printed on approximately 20" x 27½" Barcham Green Crisbrook paper and are each numbered 24/125. Ribbon ties on the burlap clamshell are partially lacking, else fine. Copy 24 of 100 numbered copies offered for sale, Signed by Baskin and Hughes on the limitation page. Sagar and Tabor A46a. A beautiful production, featuring 10 previously unpublished poems inspired by Baskin's striking imagery.

Description: These ten poems printed for the first time form part of "Cave Birds," a sequence of twenty poems written by Hughes between 1974-75 to Baskin's drawings. The poems are published together with prints from the related drawings and each poem is accompanied by a facsimile of a draft selected from the poet's working papers. The elephant folio sized prints are signed by Baskin, numbered, and dated. The book is quarter white paper, with hand-made chocolate paper sides and light brown label stamped in black. Unpaginated. Portfolio is 20 x 14 1/2 inches. The Baskin prints are printed on Barcham Green paper. The text of the poems is printed on handmade paper by F. Amatruda, Amalfi. The matching burlap covered fitted portfolio with ties contains both the prints and the book. Number 93 of an edition limited to one hundred copies, each copy of the book signed by the poet, Ted Hughes, and the illustrator, Leonard Baskin. Fine condition.
