Description: Plain green linen spine. Cream colored boards rubbed worn soiled, corners rounded with some loss. Interior staples rusted, showing webbing in a few places. Last printed leaf with edges chipped with some loss, 1 inch horizontal tear in right margin about half way up, not affecting illustrations.

Book in good condition in original pictorial boards, with green cloth to spine, which are grubby with edge-wear, and paper missing from bottom left hand corner of rear cover. 21 coloured plates, including frontis., by Louis Wain, with verses by S. C. Woodhouse. Internally there are some handling marks, not too bad, and the stapled binding is beginning to split, with the rusted staples showing through. Photographs on request.

Description: Quarter green cloth over color pictorial, heavy-card stock boards. Some soiling to boards, upper corners creased. Tall octavo. Collating [2], 4-23, [1, blank]. With twenty full-page color plates, including frontispiece. In all an excellent copy. At the end of the nineteenth century, Louis Wain (1860-1939), the Edwardian cat artist, became a household name as an illustrator of cats, whom he depicted in all sorts of activities, from skating and playing cricket to driving motor cars, attending dances, and playing musical instruments. "He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look like Louis Wain cats are ashamed of themselves" (H.G. Wells). Wood 36. Dale, p. 76.
