Description: London, Ernest Brown & Phillips, The Leicester Galleries, 1927 (second printing - '2nd Edition' is printed at the head of the front cover). Sextodecimo, 28 pages (including 7 pages of advertisements) plus 2 plates (Eric Kennington's bust of Lawrence, and Augustus John's portrait of King Feysal [sic]). Overlapping wrappers (with advertisements for Leicester Galleries on three surfaces) slightly nicked and a little creased, with a short tear to the front bottom margin expertly sealed; corner creases to the last two leaves and the John plate; scattered foxing; minor signs of handling; overall a very good copy. 'Exhibition No. 427 February 5th-21st, 1927'; Shaw's preface runs to seven pages, Lawrence's (five pages) is an extract 'from a note on Mr Kennington's Arab portraits written by Colonel Lawrence in 1921'. Provenance: 'from the library of David Garnett', with a small label to that effect mounted on the front cover. A most felicitous association: David Garnett edited the first major collection of Lawrence's correspondence, and both he and his father Edward were important influences on him as a writer. Castle Hill Press has recently published 'T.E. Lawrence's Correspondence with Edward and David Garnett' (2016). O'Brien A099.
