Description: xx, 453p, 478p, 453p, 348p. Bound in dark green cloth. The complete four volume set of this very scarce catalogue limited to 200 small paper copies from a total edition of 250 privately printed by the Chiswick Press for the Duke of Devonshire. The catalogue was compiled by the anglo-italian politician, scholar and bibliophile Sir James Lacaita 1813-1895 and the introduction includes a brief history of the library from its origin and various members of the Cavendish family. An ex library copy with a notation on the bookplate that it was a gift from the Duke of Devonshire dated 7/24. Contains the perforated stamps on the title pages and small library stamp on first text page. There is also a paper card attached to the last blank page in each volume the library shelf numbers. Headband and foot on the spines are a little worn. Otherwise a fresh clean set with untrimmed edges.
