Illustrated dustwrapper. light offsetting to endpapers, but a near fine copy in a very good dustwrapper, one 2cm closed tear to top edge of front panel, corners bumped, and with some wear to spine ends. First edition. Williams's vast, hallucinatory play owes a debt both to Ibsen's Peer Gynt and Strindberg's A Dream Play, and is as difficult to stage as both of them. Unsurprisingly, it's rarely seen, but Denholm Elliott starred in the UK premiere, staged in 1957 and directed by Peter Hall, and a then unknown Al Pacino led the first Broadway revival, in 1970.
