The Dana Girls was a series of young adult mystery novels produced by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The title heroines, Jean and Louise Dana, are teenage sisters and amateur detectives who solve mysteries while at boarding school. The series was created in 1934 in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of both the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories and the Hardy Boys series, but was less successful than either. The series was written by a number of ghostwriters and, despite going out-of-print twice, lasted from 1934 to 1979; the books have also been translated into a number of other languages. While subject to less critical attention than either Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys, a number of critics have written about the series, most arguing that the Dana Girls' relative lack of success was due to the more dated nature of the series.

Description: This offering is a vintage copy of The Clue of the Broken Locket (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories) - was written by Carolyn Keene and has a black-and white frontispiece (glossy) illustrated by Russell H. Tandy. The book was published by Grosset & Dunlap Publishers probably in the 1950's and is NOT a first edition (though it's one of the first) . . . just a really nice vintage copy WITH a dust jacket in good condition that was published - perhaps - in 1934. It's one of the books with a blue cover and orange figures and print on the front board and spine. This is not an ex-library copy and is in very good condition with a dust jacket that is in good condition . . . though I believe it might be a "second state" dust jacket . . . it's got Lilian Garis on the back and not Margaret Sutton. The book's in nice shape with no interior markings and The Clue of the Broken Locket is last listed on the copyright page. Dust Jacket has small chip at top of spine and largish 'v' losses at bottom spine tip, closed tear at bottom right on spine & bottom on front flap crease, no other chipping, tearing or creasing, slight wear to spine tips, slight wear to front flap crease with 'v' losses to flap crease corners, hint of edge wear, no soiling or staining, hint of dust rubbing to white rear panel, no color rubbing to front panel, no spine sun darkening (spine was published slightly yellow rather than the white of the rear panel).
