Some of his credits include "The Flower Babies Book", "The Flower Children", "Butterfly Babies", "Bird Children", "Animal Children" and others. He was also the originator of the extremely popular comic strip "Mamma's Angel Child" for the Chicago Tribune. He was a consultant to the 1933 Chicago World's Fair and an instructor at the Chicago Art Institute and the Lewis Institute. "Penny was one of five illustrators who worked for Walt Disney prior to the formation of the Walt Disney Studios. He worked with his friend R.F. Outcault, to develop "Buster Brown" and his dog "Tige", occasionally helping draw the comic strip for his friend. In many of the old illustrations with Buster Brown, you will see a little girl with patent leather shoes which were called "Mary Jane's." His daughter, Mary Jane, was the inspiration for the Mary Jane shoes that are still sold and seen today. In 1926, he moved his family to Southern California to work for RKO and other studios as a set designer. [information from the web site of Spencer 'n Ross, URL: www.spencer-n-ross.com/artist ]
