Condition: Good

Description: Sound 2nd impression of the first edition in the same year, 1929. Blue cloth boards match the original with mustard yellow titling, clear on front board, and hard to read on the spine, as the blue background has sun-faded to a tone the same lightness as the lettering. The boards are evenly faded, still retaining the blue colour. The book has been re-backed, with original spine laid on. The front hinge has the re-backing cloth showing through in a 2mm wide strip of darker blue, reflecting the original colour of the cloth, The rear hinge has the backing cloth almost not showing. Original end-papers tight in the gutters, the binding has been firmed up nicely. Minor spotting and age darkening to text block edges. Occasional foxing freckles to page edges. Free of ownermarks. 272pp+8pp adverts. No DJ. Size: 8vo

Description: First edition. Blue cloth lettered in yellow, in the rare pictorial dustwrapper. INSCRIBED on the front free endpaper by Forester, "with compliments from C. S. Forester." A very good copy indeed, slight spotting to fore edges. In a very good dustwrapper, which has a full colour image to the upper panel. There are small nicks to the corners and a hole (1cm x 0.5cm) to the upper spine. No lettering is lost and overall this is a most attractive copy of this very scarce early novel.
