This charming volume presents a series of illustrations of the sport of hunting, with numerous depictions of horses and animals throughout. Illustrated by G. D. Armour. G. D. Armour was a British painter who in throughout his artistic career and personal life had a deep in interest in horses, so much so that in 1910 he chose to study studied military equestrianism at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. There are 55 plate in total. Collated complete. With an introduction by Horace G. Hutchinson. Hutchinson was an amateur golfing champion who is noted from writing numerous sporting works. In a quarter cloth binding, with paper covered boards. Externally lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine, with patches of loss to paper covered boards to the extremities. Handling marks to the front and rear boards, including a mark to the rear board and small ink spots towards the head of the front board. Age toning to the front and rear endpapers and pastedowns. Internally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age toned. Several tissue guards are partially detached throughout the volume. Very Good Indeed

In total across both illustrated volumes there are 397 plates, illustrated by E W Hunnybun, a famed botanical artist. With an additional frontispiece and several vignettes in the accompanying text volumes. Ex libris 6th Duke of Portland as indicated by bookplate to front pastedown of three of the four volumes. William Cavendish-Bentinck was a British landowner, courtier and Conservative politician. He served as a lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards and had a flourishing military career. Upon leaving his military career he pursued politics and sat on Conservative benches in the House of Lords. Written by Charles Edward Moss with the assistance of specialists in certain genera. Moss was an English born South African botanist, he edited this very high standard reference work which was unfortunately abandoned before it could reach its ten volumes.
