Covering a large time span; from Francis Barlow in the reign of Charles I, and ending with J. F. Herring and the younger Wolstenholme. As the subject is Art in its relations with Sport, and Sport in its patronage of Art, this long period is particularly interesting, because its changes and improvements mark a continuous evolution, unbroken by revolutionary fashions and their reactions. Rebacked in green cloth gilt title to the spine and gilt embossed picture of a horse and rider to the front board. Externally, boards are sound, with only some light wear to the extremities. Rubbing to the spine, with chipping and very minor loss. Internally, firmly bound and bright throughout, although with light background foxing throughout. Good

Original gilt lettered black, red & gilt on white cloth. Very good but white cloth & gilt somewhat worn & soiled especially at back-strip, sheets & plates fine, clean, thoroughly marked by Smith, more than complete.
