Description: Novel, 458pp, translated from the French and with an introduction by D F Hannigan. Title page printed in red and black, chapter heads and footers printed in red. 'Illustrated with nine original designs after S Gorski', one is missing, the rest present and tissue-guarded. One of the designs is repeated in gilt to the front board. Gilt design to spine, top edges gilt, the rest untrimmed and age-toned. Left hinge broken, right hinge cracked and internal hinge cracked at the point where the missing illustration would have appeared. Spine darkened, with three small tears to the backstrip. Text-block relatively clean, reading copy only of this scarce edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
