LEAR, EDWARD.. A Book of Nonsense. By Edward Lear. Fourteenth Edition. With many new pictures and verses.. London Routledge Warne and Routledge, 1863.

Price: US$63.70 + shipping

Description: Oblong 8vo, title page, dedication leaf and 112 illustrations by Lear with verses underneath, original red cloth backed yellow pictorial boards after Lear's drawings, rubbed, abrasion to lower board, worn to corners, spine ends re-inforced, perhaps recased at an early period as several leaves at the front have been misbound, but complete with all pages, the dedication leaf [dated 1863] trimmed and laid down, still a reasonably neat copy, FOURTEENTH EDITION. A great many identical editions appeared in this year, 1863, the date of the preface, but although produced in large numbers, copies have not survived well; this fairly clean and complete example has the light pencil additions, including one of a limerick for the old man of Cheadle which is slightly impolite; it can be easily erased but we prefered to retain such period features where possible.
