Price: US$64.16 + shipping

Description: (Hardcover, 1902 ). 1902 1st edition. Pp117. B/w illustrations and photographs, maps, pictorial cloth. Cover badly stained, hinges tender. Good only. Travel and observations of local life along one of the Nile's larger tributaries in the Sudan, with much bird and mammal collecting along the way. "The journey, of which this little book forms a narrative, was undertaken for the sole purpose of endeavouring to add to our knowledge of the birds and beasts of the Soudan. Birds, being my special delight, received most attention, and I make no excuse for the amount of space occupied in discussing them in the following pages, I have added in an appendix a full list of the birds observed or collected, but for a complete account of them I must refer the reader to the Ibis for 1901, pp, 237-278. Of the animals, owing to my ignorance, I have very little to say." Contents I. THE DESERT RAILWAY, KHARTOUM AND OMDURMAN. 2. THE RIVER - ESSENTIAL ALIKE TO MAN, BEAST AND BIRD. 3. THE COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE. 4. CAMPING AND COLLECTING. 5. BIRDS. 6. A DANCE, A SAND-STORM, AND A RARE BIRD. Appendix A. LIST OF THE BIRDS COLLECTED AND OBSERVED. Appendix B. LIST OF THE MAMMALS. .
