Description: First edition published nearly 80 years ago in Calcutta, India, is much sought after by collectors of exotic hunting literature and big game hunters, illustrated with photographs and color plates of numerous paintings likely commissioned by the maharajah of Nepal to promote his country, with two large color folding maps of Nepal. Evelyn Smythies was a conservator of forests in India, Kumaon division for nearly three decades, a tiger hunter and a close friend of Jim Corbett. After retiring, he worked as an advisor to Forestry in Nepal. Enclosed is a facsimile cutting of author’s signed presentation to Lord Linlithgow, himself an avid tiger hunter in India and Nepal, and viceroy of India (1936-1943) loosely laid. Large format (aapx.8x10"), light stains on bottom pages, otherwise an excellent copy. Two labels indicates the book once belonged to a tiger hunter, (Mr. Senn of California) , and a taxidermist in india/ Nepal.
