Description: Big Game Hunting in North-Eastern Rhodesia. By Owen Letcher. Published by John Long in 1911. A First Edition. Hardcover. Size: 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches or 22.5 x 14.5. Page number: 266. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. A classic of its time the book is written by one of the foremost hunters of the period. Chapters include: In Nature's Playground - An Exiting Buffalo Hunt; Across The Muchingas; The Country of The Awemba - Into The Great Swamps and More Hunts in the Luangwa Valley - The Return To Fort Jameson. With 52 photographic illustrations and a map. Condition: Very Good. The boards are a little worn and marked; the spine slightly faded. The binding is beginning to loosen, there are cracks in the hinges and one page sits proud of the rest such that the end block is not uniformly even. A page tip has been turned. The pages are, but for small marks, and flaws that have to do with age, are generally clean and remain un-thumbed. A previous owners name, a date and 'Reading' has been written in ink on the first end paper. There is no dust jacket. A heavy book. Additional postage may be required if shipped outside of the UK.

Description: 8vo. Hardcover. Pp. 266. First Edition and includes a plate on front end-paper inscribed by the author. In very good condition; red cloth binding with gilt title on the spine. Faint shelf-wear, such as minor bumping at top and bottom of spine, and small ink stains particularly on the spine. Pages themselves are clean and tight with light foxing. Few pencil annotations and the fold-out map at the back has a small tear which doesn't obstruct the map itself. Ex-library bookplate on the front end-paper as well as library stamp in top right corner. Complete with b/w illustrations and photographs. Owen Letcher was a British gentleman adventurer and one of the first 'tourist' trophy sportsmen who made their appearance with the arrival of the railway at the Zambezi. He had studied mining and became a mining journalist in the 1920s in South Africa.
