A tragic story of the beautiful and martyred Beatrice, whose famous trial for "unnatural vice" in the late 16th century involved questions of morality and of thefts, and a circle of family members who were involved in numerous misdeeds and scandalous behaviors, the tale of which takes up two very extensive volumes, and overflows with numerous dishonorable persons, false claims and misdeeds, in which it is uncertain, at the end, why Beatrice was found to be so culpable as to forfeit her young life. Very good-plus conditions (no dust jacket), and no wear on the bindings, or writing within. A clean set. First edition, thus, not stated, in English translations by Morris Bishop and Henry Stuart.
