Description: Interesting copy of this hunting narrative from the English explorer and archaeologist, Heywood Walter Seton-Karr, with an autograph letter signed to his cousin attached to the ffep. The 17-line letter is in regards to a pamphlet sent to the author, which Seton-Karr found quite interesting, and briefly discusses a few names mentioned in the publication. There are also a couple short newspaper articles about Seton-Karr attached to the front endpapers. The work itself is wonderfully illustrated throughout with both plates and chapter illustrations depicting the author's travels and hunting and fishing adventures in Alaska and Canada. Description: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 156p. Original green cloth, illustrated with original folding map. Map has a "4" tear at one of its folds. Bookplate of Walther Rutherford Peterson who was not only a former Governor of New Jersey but a noted collector of books on hunting and angling. This book not only deals with bear hunting in Alaska but also describes the everyday life in Alaska and how Klinkets and others used their pack dogs and the powerful Native American superstition about brown bears. The author also talks about hunting other animals including Bighorn sheep in Canada.
