Description: SIGNED by the artist, Zhenya Gay featuring her original lithographs, to the colophon. Number 228 of 1500 copies printed for members of the The Limited Editions Club by John S. Fass at the Harbor Press New York, 1937. Bound in grey sheepskin with the brick wall and barred window relief to the front board. Like new and appears unread. The interior is clean and free of any markings or writing. Red blocked chapter numbers. Bright gilt titles to spine. Gilt top edge. Boards are lightly to moderately rubbed to extremities with small areas of loss to the corners. 1.5cm tear to the top edge of the front board at the head of the spine. 2.5cm tape “pull” to the rear board near the bottom edge, 4cm x 5mm narrow strip of leather missing to the bottom edge of the rear board. Presents quite nicely despite this detailed description. Without slipcase. Written by Wilde following his two years of hard labour and release from Reading Goal.

The Press printed more affordable classic volumes that were previously published by Macy's Limited Editions Club and covered a broad range of topics primarily within the Western canon. In addition to Macy, directors of the Heritage Press included Cedric Crowell, General Manager of the Doubleday Bookshops; Frank L. Magel, head of Putnam Bookstores in New York; and A. Koch, head of Brentano Stores in New York. Though many of Macy's other imprints, including The Heritage Club, The Heritage Illustrated Bookshelf, and The Junior Heritage Club, were sold by subscription only, Heritage Press editions were sold through bookstores. Macy combined his publishing enterprises in 1944, though each imprint maintained its specific target audience.
