Inside, elegantly printed with wide margins and two colors on title page and each strophe section. Red book edges. Only indication of ex-libris is on last left endpaper where we find, unfortunately, an empty date due paper inset, a crossed out isbn number sticker and a discard stamp over Cutler Memorial Library stamp. The artistic cover is made to look like a cold lifeless jail made of granite blocks and steel bars. * There are 8 lithographs by Zhenya Gay. * The spine title is stamped in gilt, all the text edges red, and the slip case is covered in red paper. The pages are printed with Egmont type and at the beginning of each Chapter, the page decoration are also printed in red. * * * CONDITION: The book is in very good plus condition and the book case in in good condition with some minor wear and loss of surface on the very top and lower front edge opening. The Press printed more affordable classic volumes that were previously published by Macy's Limited Editions Club and covered a broad range of topics primarily within the Western canon. In addition to Macy, directors of the Heritage Press included Cedric Crowell, General Manager of the Doubleday Bookshops; Frank L. Magel, head of Putnam Bookstores in New York; and A. Koch, head of Brentano Stores in New York. Though many of Macy's other imprints, including The Heritage Club, The Heritage Illustrated Bookshelf, and The Junior Heritage Club, were sold by subscription only, Heritage Press editions were sold through bookstores.
