Description: Boards (HB) in fair condition with spine open with enclosed tears and missing piece at very top. Front cover almost off. Front endpaper missing, illustration of Babe hitting, glued to inside front cover. Illustration of his life story, glued to next page. Library copy from the Congregation Sherith Israel, San Francisco. Covers soiled, library stamps and spots to pages. It is all there, except for the front end paper, just not very pretty. The Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, one of the best all around players, pitcher and hitter, who ever played the game. 301 pages.

Description: Copyright 1928. Print date April 1928. This is the first edition, 2nd printing, printed the same month ast the 1st. Blue cloth boards have bold black lettering on front and spine. Corners and front edge of spine have only light rubs. Spine ends show light wear. Cloth is clean. Hinges are intact and binding is tight. Endpapers are illustrated in black and white. "2010" is stamped at top of ffep. No other writing. There are 30 b&w photograps on 15 double-sided plates. There is also a b&w frontispiece. Pages in proximity to the plates have foxing due to the acid content of the ink on the plates. Pages are otherwise generally clean, with just an occasional finger smudge or spot. There are two pages that were torn and have loss (see last pic). One is a plate, and only the margin was torn off. But the other is a text page, with some loss of text. Written in the year (1927) that he had his highest number of home runs (a staggering 60) and published early the following year.

Description: First Edition (stated). New York: G.P. Putman s Sons, 1928. This is the true first edition of 1928, NOT the A.L. Burt reprint edition. 302 + xii pp. 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Blue cloth boards with gilt titling to cover and spine. Slight fading to spine with abrasion, dimpling and hole near title (see photo). NO markings on pages. 31 black and white photos. No dust jacket. Photographic paste-down and end-pages showing old Yankee stadium. Previous owner's stamp Geo. Roads Bright, Pottsville, PA on front and on rear paste-down (inside cover). Incidentally, Babe Ruth and the Yankees made numerous visits to the Pottsville area (Schuylkill County) in the 1920s to play exhibition games against local clubs. On one occasion, Babe Ruth was presented with a miniature baseball bat made of a solid piece of anthracite coal taken from a mine at the depth of 1,700 feet (New York Times, Sept. 17, 1921). One of the earliest baseball clubs in the area, the Pottsville Anthracites, was founded in 1882, although organized baseball had been played in the county since 1866. Ships fast with tracking. Description: Octavo, blue cloth lettered in gilt; spine sunned with frayed ends, tender hinges, extremities rubbed, contents immaculate. First edition, first printing. Buttenheim family copy, with the ownership signature of Edgar Buttenheim, board member of the Buttenheim Publishing Corporation on the front endpaper. This copy is also signed by three of Babe Ruth's teammates, pitcher Myles Thomas (nicknamed "Duck Eye" by Ruth) and World Series pitchers George Pipgras and Herb Pennock, on the front flyleaf. Ruth discusses the ballplayers at length throughout the book. A superb association copy with a distinguished provenance.
