Price: US$153.84 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: 8vo, [viii], 250pp + 2pp ads, printed on good quality heavy paper with deckle edges, t.e.g., orig. buckram cloth bevelled edges, lettered in gilt, with light wear to some extremities. A VG+ copy contained in a velvet lined solander box designed by Sangorski & Sutcliffe of London. Written by J. M. Barrie, the Scottish novelist and dramatist who is best known for inventing the character of Peter Pan. Barrie's first novels were set in Kirriemuir, Scotland, which he referred to as "Thrums" (his father worked as a weaver). His Thrums novels were hugely successful when they were published, including Auld Licht Idylls (1888). These tales were told to Barrie by his Mother, the "daughter of a local stonemason who was one of the most fanatical upholders of that fiercely puritanical brand of Protestantism known as the Auld Lichts." (Dunbar). The Author's second book. This book's sentimental visitation of Scottish eccentricity (the Auld Lichts were a strict religious sect to which Barrie's father belonged) and Scottish lore and locale made him an instant success.
