Description: BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, xvi, 415 pgs, index, 7 appendices, photo illustrations, 125 pen/ink drawings by author, maps. First British Edition. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Publisher's original green cloth, bright, gilt musk-ox head on front, title in gilt on spine. Minor shelf rubbing on edges, spine sunned. Interior has small May, 1912 inked gift inscription on front free endpaper; else tight and clean. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The noted naturalist and writer's excellent account of northern hunting, sport and travel. He states; "In 1907 I set out to journey by canoe down the Athabaska and adjoining waters to the sole remaining forest wilds--the far north-west of Canada--and the yet more desert Arctic Plains, where still, it was said, were to be seen the Caribou in their primitive condition." With full page hand-written letter from noted book collector and philanthropist Alfred H. Howell gifting the book to a close friend. From the tone and content of the letter, it's clear he was an admirer of the book; nice association copy of the scarce first British edition.
