Description: This is a terrible copy. Both covers are detached, spine is gone, damp stains in lower corner more or less throughout. Affects the most of the guarded illustrations although not violently. It does have the original 12 illustrations and I have elected to list it rather then disposing. Title and copyright pages both state 1909, as does the foreword but it does not have the Published 1909 statement. Sold with all faults, 338 pp.

Description: 1909 printing. First printing of the 1909 Scribner's edition with Parrish illustrations. Same date title and copyright page and statement "Published October, 1909." Foreword dated August 1909. Black cloth book with color pastedown to cover; some fraying to caps (mostly bottom) and mild wear to pastedown. Top edge gilt. Binding sound. No foxing, no finger smudges--textblock is clean and pages do not show handling creases. All twelve color plates present complete with tissue guards, color on the plates bright. There is a stamp to on the free front endpaper stating "No longer the property of / Seattle Public Library." No other writing, marks, etc. noted. There is an occasional margin tear and some pages seem to have been cut open rather roughly. For the most part this is minor, but on two pages, 209-210 and 211-212, a good bit of the top corner has been torn away and it does slightly affect the text--six words total (or parts of them). Otherwise tight, clean, bright pages. Please see photos.
