Description: 1925. First Edition. 236 pages. No dust jacket. Pictorial cloth covered boards. Black and white illustrations throughout by Rex Whistler and Mary Forster-Knight. Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Some cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding loose. Plate at page 96 stained. Boards have moderate shelf wear with mild bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine.

Description: Original yellow cloth with black titles on the cover and spine. 236 + very clean and bright pages, Illustrated throughout, previous owners signature on the first free page dated, 1935, mild speckled foxing on the end papers and edges. Boards are slightly rubbed and faded with time consistent with age but remain firm and intact. Usual toning and age appreciation should be expected.

Description: First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 237pp + ii publisher's advertisements at the rear. Yellow cloth lettered in black at the spine and upper board. Whistler provides fourteen captioned plates, one in colour, and Forster-Knight seven plates; and there are a further nineteen chapter header and tail piece illustrations and vignettes, and a five panel fold-out sketch map at rear. One Forster-Knight plate is a little nicked and darkened at the edges, although the illustration itself is undamaged. Former owner details inked to the front pastedown. Cloth somewhat marked and grubby, yet a very crisp and bright copy internally. No dust wrapper.

Description: Sir Frank Athelstane Swettenham GCMG CH (28 March 1850 11 June 1946) was a British colonial administrator who became the first Resident general of the Federated Malay States, which brought the Malay states of Selangor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang together under the administration of a Resident-General based in Kuala Lumpur. He served from 1 July 1896 to 4 November 1901. He was also an amateur painter, photographer and antique collector.
