Description: 8vo, brown cloth, archival mylar-protected pictorial dust jacket (unclipped) depicting a standing woman, top page edges stained red, 206 pages. Yardis Fisher (1895 - 1968) was an American writer from Idaho who wrote popular historical novels of the Old West. Having been raised in the faith, his Children of God (1939) dealt with the Latter-day Saints. His 12-volume Testament of Man (1943-60) novelized the history of humankind. In 1937, the year in which APRIL was published about a homely young woman's poeticized love affair, Fisher wrote The Idaho Guide for the WPA! One of Fisher's less common titles often without dust jacket. There appear to be two states of the dust jacket: one plain; another with this Art Nouveau image of a woman. One assumes this is the latter state in which the publisher has enhanced the dj of a better-seller. Cloth is tight with light soil; pages have moderate and uniform page-toning; the dust jacket (unclipped) has wear and bare spots on the rear panel.
