Description: 268 pages (complete). Angelica Kauffmann, an Austrian who helped found the Royal Academy, painted works that one would like to hang in one's house. Her neo-classicism was unobtrusive and gentle. This book written by Victoria Manners (the sister of the utterly beautiful Diana Cooper and was Marchioness of Anglesey through marrying the 6th Marquess, who in turn was the successor and cousin of the legendary 'dancing peer' - the outrageous 5th Marquess). The cover of this large and generous book is much stained and worn. It is benign and sure. The contents are wonderfully gentle, genteel and attractive. The pages are of thick handmade paper. They are very clean, clear, attractive, tidy, neat, certain, diligent and comfortable. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.

Description: This is a very good hardcover copy in the original binding: brown paper-covered boards and cream cloth spine with black leather spine label, titled in gilt. Very clean inside and out. A few previous owner marks, one an interesting circular handstamp on the front pastedown identifying it as belonging to the De Forests at 640 Madison Avenue. Perhaps the family of Lockwood De Forest. His siblings were prominent in the art worlds of the late 19th and early 20th century. One became a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum, another was an art historian, and both lived in New York. The other mark is a neat but not legible handstamp, a name in script, that appears on the backs of several plates. Also a number on the spine which was covered with a tiny white square of paper. No other marks, and not an x-library copy, but a privately owned copy. Some expert conservation on the inner hinges, now virtually invisible. 79 illustrations in color and black & white. 12" high X 9" wide, 268 pages. A beautiful copy of this scarce classic. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
