Description: VG first edition. Blanchard A27. A memoir of the life of one the leading members of the legal profession in late 19th century Scotland. 155pp Dark blue cloth; gold lettering; frontispiece portrait with tissue guard. Very bright with particularly bright lettering on the front. The spine is a little faded as is the arae of the raer board immediately adjacent to it. Equally bright internally but there is a small brown mark affecting one corner of the tissue guard and title page and, to a lesser degree, the frontispiece. Overall a very nice copy of this scarce work.

Description: Blanchard A27. VG first edition. Andrew Jameson achieved high office in the Scottish legal system and the young JB was a frequent visitor to Ardwall House on the Galloway coast. This short biography was written at the request of Lady Ardwall shortly after Lord Ardwall’s death. Blanchard shows the binding as dark blue cloth but this copy is bound in an attractive olive green cloth, slightly textured. It is clearly a factory binding, not a private binding, and in all other respects is identical to the description given in Blanchard. It is not a later impression as, at this period, Blackwood’s were punctilious in noting impressions subsequent to the first. Very bright with good, sharp corners but some very slight rubbing in places. Internally virtually as new but for a hint of browning of the endpapers. The second fly-leaf carries a splendidly florid inscription and there is a very small bookplate on the front paste-down. An attractive and very rare copy.
