With a Preface to the American edition, noting that it had been printed from the author's manuscript, "without the advantage of his corrections and emendations."

Description: Hardcover 1st US, g+ in contemporary 3/4 leather. Leather scraped on all edges, chipping on spine; owner's name (H.G. Norton, Trenton, N.J.) on tp and ffep; also has ownership signature of the excellent novelist Frank O'Rourke. Text moderately foxed. Bookstore sticker on rear pastedown: Books Inc., San Francisco. This very scarce book has much on the latter days of the fur trade, as the author was governor-in-chief of the Hudson's Bay Company's territories. He made his way across the continent from Boston to Vancouver; he travelled from there down the coast to SanFrancisco and reported on California in the early days of the gold rush.
