Description: Good. Full leather binding in mottled calf with ribbed spine, red label, and some gilt. About 40 plates. Bookplates and a name on each of the three volumes (out of the 8 volume set). First Edition, 1774. The books measure about 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches, and have about 400 pages each. The second half of Volume 8 is an Index for the 8 volume set. The boards are well attached, and there is minimal foxing and no writing other than the name in the inside front cover of each. One photo shows some damage at the top of the spine of Volume 8. Some shelfwear-rubbing to covers, some rubbing to corners, several joints and hinges starting but still holding solidly, some mild foxing throughout, some tanning to pastedown margins and to prelims and final pages, and a suggestion of dampstain to several pages of vol 1 only (not affecting legibility).
