Robertson, William. An HISTORICAL DISQUISITION concerning the Knowledge which the Ancients had of INDIA ; and the PROGRESS of TRADE with that COUNTRY prior to the Discovery of the Passage to it by the CAPE OF GOOD HOPE. Condition: Fair

Description: First US ed. (first ed. Scotland 1791); 420 p., unwritten upon except for the signature of the former owner in small elegant hand on upper edge of t.p. but the end pages, front and back, are quite stained; the boards are detached, the front board scuffed and stained and the last very much abraded so that the leather is missing in one area; the gilt lettering on a darker brown patch on spine, reading "Robertson's India" is legible. Despite staining of the paste downs and end pages by some miracle the t.p. is only age-toned at edges; the paper extraordinarily fine and only mildly age-toned. No maps or ill. Remainder of subtitle: "APPENDIX, Containing Observations on the Civil Policy--the Laws and Judicial Proceedings--the Arts--the Sciences--and Religious Institutions, of the INDIANS." Probably this extremely rare book is not available elsewhere--it deserves to finally be carefully preserved.
