One of an unstated limitation of 400 copies written for the bicentennial of Conway, Massachusetts (1767-1967). Frontispiece etching of Macleish by Leonard Baskin. Archibald MacLeish was not only a well-known poet but also served as Librarian of Congress, appointed by Franklin Roosevelt, a position he used to reorganize and promote the institution. In addition to winning three Pulitzer Prizes, MacLeish was commissioned by the NEW YORK TIMES to write a poem to celebrate the Apollo 11 moon landing, which he entitled "Voyage to the Moon" and which appeared on the front page of the 21 July 1969 edition of the paper. Description: Unbound folded sheets laid into green wrappers, small slender 4to., (23) pages. Consists of trimmed proofs of the text pasted onto the cover and sheets, with pencilled annotations and hand numbering; with a dummy in a wider format on mould made paper with hand-written layout information; with a finished copy of the book and a four-page title and colophon on creme laid paper. The finished copy of the book, on Mohawk Suede Finish paper, bears five corrections to the text in red pencil, possibly by the author, and is otherwise fine. The mock-up and dummy copies show expected use. From the estate of Howard Besnia, a fellow artist and good friend with whom Baskin exchanged specimens over the years. Enclosed in a supplied decorated paper-covered board portfolio with spine label.
