Description: London, G. Robinson, J. Sewell and J. Debrett, 1783 , volume 1 only , in-8 , full calf contempary , some defects , illustrated with 8 plates , missing the map . Ellis was a surgeon's mate during Cook's third voyage, first on the Discovery and later on the Resolution, and gives quite a good history of the expedition. This account was published two years before the official narrative. The fine plates illustrating the first and second edition are among the earliest published on the Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, and the Northwest. The text of the second edition is closely reset from the first edition . P2-3B
