Description: 24mo. (11 cm.) unpaged [24p.] Leather shows just touches of wear, gilt bright, interior fine with no internal markings. Evans perfected the woodblock printing technique of chromoxylography and was the premier wood engraver and color printer in Britain in the second half of the nineteenth century. He helped launch the career of Kate Greenaway in the late 1870s, and in the 1880s printed two to three Greenaway titles per year, including a series of nine Almanacks which continued into the mid-1890s. According to children's literature scholar Anne Lundin, the distinctive quality of Evans' printing, as well as his popularity as a children's book printer, linked Greenaway's name with his, thereby increasing her commercial appeal. He was Greenaway’s only engraver and printer during her career as an illustrator.
