Riley, James Whitcomb. A Hoosier Romance. The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1912.

Price: US$60.00 + shipping

Condition: Good

Description: Very lovely book, by James Whitcomb Riley, and illustrations by John Wolcott Adams. Pages are printed on tinted decorated paper. The front cover is visibly worn and faded. The spine and corners surrounding have all succumbed to shelf/rubbing wear. Dirt/Stains on the front and back panel, and the binding cloth to the outer spine is worn drastically. The spine has been detached form the inlay, spine has aged but maintained contact with the entirety of the text block. Various marks from, crayons, pencils, and pens throughout the book on the text and illustrations. On one particular page, a circular soil moisture patch coves a quarter of the page, it separated the top of the paper from the page and some has stuck to the following illustration. Then the illustration page with moisture has bled through to the next page. The paste down end pages have soiled and darkened but remain without any additional marks. This would be great as a reading copy to an audience as the story is short and the book sits very nicely in your hands. The majority of the pages are mark-free so even sharing the illustrations while you read would not be an issue. This book proves a worthy candidate of those in the business of wishing to refine older classical reads. Overall, outstanding book.
