Bound in quarter leather morocco with hand marbled paper sides. Spine faded to brown, common with this edition, but gilt letters are clear and intact. Slight darkening to slipcase at edges. Inside pages are clean without marks, inscriptions or noticeable fading. Binding is sound. s95

Quarter-morocco and marbled boards, 4to, 10 facsimile plates, 8 pp. From the Description: "William Blake’s early tractate, 'All Religions are One', consists of ten small etched plates averaging in size only about 5.5 X 4 cm. There is some uncertainty about the circumstances in which the work was produced, though it is generally accepted that it must belong to a period of experimentation in the production of the plates for the Illuminated Books. " For this facsimile edition "The plates were reproduced in Paris in the workshops of Trianon Press (France) by the collotype process, with some water-colour washes added by hand" and the work was "printed on Arches pure rag paper made to match the paper used by Blake." Copy no. 52 of 600 numbered copies from a total edition of 662. Spine slightly faded, otherwise Very Good in Very Good slipcase.

Blake scholar Geoffrey Keynes (1887-1982), the brother of John Maynard, provides a commentary and bibliographical history. He summarizes the gnomic intent of Blake's early tractate thus: "Blake identifies the Poetic Genius, that is God, with 'Divine Humanity'. Man is therefore uniform, yet with infinite variety in the individuals. All men, thus derived from a universal Poetic Genius, have but one religion, though each nation has its difference beliefs according to its needs". Quarto. Original green quarter morocco, spine lettered in gilt, marbled sides. With the original marbled slipcase. With 10 colour plates. Bookplate of Joseph Holland (with a design after Blake) to front pastedown. Spine sunned as often, and a little soiled, minor rubbing at slipcase extremities, contents clean and fresh.
