"If any apology is needed for offering to the world a set of new illustrations to Alice in Wonderland, it must be found in the special fitness of Mr Peter Newell to make drawings for that book. Alice is frankly not quite of this world, and so are Mr Newell's drawings. . He offers us Alice as she appears to him. He presents to us the Rabbit, the Mouse, the Dodo, the Cheshire Cat, the Gryphon, the Mock-Turtle, the March Hare, the Hatter, and the other members of a remarkable family reflected in the mirror of his uncanny and surprsing mind. It is a new set of portraits of old acquaintances." - Introduction by Edward S Martin. Wonderful edition of Alice, the first with Peter Newell's delightful illustrations replacing the original Tenniel artwork, uncommon in dust jacket. ; xvii, 192 pages
