Description: Limited Edition on rag laid paper exclusively for Boni & Liveright authors and friends - #278/300. Paper is watermarked with oval B&L mark. Illustrations by John Tenniel. Last few pages unopened. 8vo Black cloth and decorated paper covered boards. 349 pages. Top edges gilt, foredges and bottom edges uncut. Introduction by Alexander Woolcott. Both top outer corners bumped. Two previous owners names on front endpaper. Scarce. no jacket. Better than Very Good condition.

Description: First edition thus, and first printing from Boni and Liveright (soon to become The Modern Library). With illustrations by John Tenniel and an introduction by Alexander Woollcott. First printing notes: error on half-title listing "The Hunting of the Shark" [vs. Snark], chapter 2 includes illustration of Alice's long neck (later omitted). No jacket. Green flexible leather with gilded device on front and gilded lettering and lines on spine. Debossed border close to edges on the front. Rubbing to extremities, slight bend to lower right corner of front, some denting/light creasing to spine, gilding aged. Pictoral Brodsky end-papers; front end-papers with some tears, all present - pencil notes at rear. The interior is toned, otherwise very clean and clear with all illustrations. Pages: 351 Dimensions:6½ x 4¼ x ¾.
