Tudor, Tasha (Starling "Natasha" Burgess). Alexander the Gander (SIGNED BY AUTHOR). Oxford University Press, New York, 1943.

Price: US$150.00 + shipping

Condition: Good

Description: Original owner pasted a period nameplate to inside front board, obscuring most of the pastel illustration there. Some brown staining to BOTH pastedowns, perhaps from original adhesive as made. Light soiling to rear board. At bottom of FFE, below illustration of bird & cattails, the author has written, in a neat small hand in blue fountain pen, "to Alice / Best wishes / Tasha Tudor." Book else good plus. DJ darkened at spine, with small chips to DJ spine, else good. DJ not price clipped; original $.75 price showing. This small book -- charmingly illustrated in full color -- is rare signed, and unusual in dust jacket. New Hampshire-Vermont children's book author. Reduced from $440.

Tudor, Tasha. Alexander the Gander. Oxford University Press; (1943), NY, 1943.

Price: US$225.00 + shipping

Description: Second printing (originally published in 1939), very good in a very good dust jacket. Small (4 3/4" high by 4" wide) book with color illustrations on every page. Green cloth with small white spots, with red title outlined in red on the front board. The jacket, which still has $.75 price on flap, has some rubbing and slight loss on the spine (some of the black letters are partially obscured). There are also tiny holes at the flap folds, and a slight dampstain is evident on the inside of the front panel. The interior of the book is very nice, with no names or other markings, and just some minor darkening on the pastedowns, probably from binder's glue. A pretty nice copy of a scarce book.
