First edition published in 1765 and there is no indication that this is a reprint. With folding engraved chart of the world, folding engraved map with plans of Louisbourg, Havanna, Cartagena, and Portobello, folding chart of the Southern part of South America, and folding chart of the Pacific, and 5 full-page engraved plates, one folding. (16), 264; (4), 271, (1); (4), 280 pp. An important collection of voyages, circumnavigations, and discoveries by Columbus, Vasco de Gama, Francis Drake, Walter Raleigh, Thomas Cavendish, Oliver van Noort, Spelbergen, Schouten and Le Maire, Capt. Monk, Tasman, Dampier, Lionel Wafer, Woodes Rogers, Don Ulloa, Anson, Ellis, and Martin, also including the story of Alexander Selkirk. Description: Three volumes. [12],[2],271,[1]; [6],264; [4],280pp., plus four folding maps and five plates. Folding frontispiece maps in first and second volumes. Contemporary calf, raised bands, spines gilt, leather labels. Lightly worn at hinges and around edges. Bookplates on front pastedown and flyleaf of each volume. Very good. Misbound, with complete text of first volume bound between boards of second volume, and vice versa. The plates, however, are in the correct volumes so that the illustrations of Columbus' voyage are bound in the Dampier narrative, and so on. The third volume is bound correctly. Collects accounts of the voyages of Columbus, de Gama, Drake, Raleigh, and others. The maps include a world map; plans of the cities and harbors of Havana, Portobello, Cartagena and Louisburg; a map of Cape Horn; and a map of the Pacific Ocean.
