Description: 239pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Published in conjunction with a 1981 Laguna Beach Museum of Art retrospective, this is a comprehensive monograph on the supremely talented, yet ill-fated photographer Paul Outerbridge who finished out his life destitute in Laguna Beach. This includes extensive selections of the nudes, commercial work, carbro prints, and his previously undocumented black and white ink drawings. A most handsome example. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.

Description: Laguna Beach: Laguna Beach Museum of Art, 1981. First Edition. Quarto (30x23x1.5cm); 239pp, including chronology and bibliography. Full-page and detail reproductions throughout, in color and B&W. Coated illustrated card covers. Cover shows one vertical crack length of spine, not reaching to textblock. Cover otherwise clean, bright, unbumped and unchafed. Textblock clean and unmarked. The volume is the catalog of the Outerbridge exhibition held at the Laguna Beach Museum from 21 November 1981 to 10 January 1982. The laid-in poster (68x46cm), designed by John Cheim of Cheim & Read Gallery, is from an earlier 1979 Outerbridge show at the Robert Miller gallery in New York City. The poster has been folded, sealed, mailed-to Brenda Richardson, former chief curator of the Baltimore Museum of Art-and opened, but never hung. The backside retains its original mailing label and broken broken seal; the image and the overall poster stock has come through impeccably. (Inquire about another equally fine copy of the poster, sealed but never mailed, available alone.).

Description: Santa Barbara, CA: Arabesque Books, 1981. (12.25 x 9.5 in, 31.2 x 24.5 cm). Limited to 1500 deluxe copies hardbound, mounted and matted photograph on upper panel (see images) and with a printed acetate dust jacket. Introductory essay by Bernard Barryte. Also included "The Carbro Process" by Paul Outerbridge. Profusely illustrated with both black and white and color photographs. A beautiful production in fine condition, uncommon thus. Original cloth covered boards with title printed on panel mounted to spine and matted color reproduction mounted to the upper panel (in fine, as new condition, internally and externally); original printed somewhat frosted acetate dust jacket (fine condition with only very minimal rubbing and an 8cm scratch on the lower panel). A beautifully preserved copy. "The three dimensional front cover of this volume with its mounted hinged mat displays one of Outerbridge's most famous Carbro-color prints, "Woman with Claws". With the hinged mat lifted, that part of the original image subsequently edited out by Outerbridge can be examined, allowing the viewer to study the aesthetic of Outerbridge's editorial process. His original intention was to objectify the model, evidenced by the mask; however, the full intention was not achieved until the final presentation-the overmatting." A fine copy of the deluxe edition of the Paul Outerbridge catalogue raisonne.
