Internally clean with occasional minor marks. Illustrated throughout with a variety of artists including W. L. Wyllie, Sydney Cowell, James Greg and more. A Ramble Round the Globe is an 1894 book by Thomas Dewar detailing his journey around the world publicising Dewars Scotch Whisky. Dewar's trip was motivated not only by a desire to market his brand, but also by medical imperatives: Dewar had been battling a persistent cold that had been growing worse, and his doctor suggested that a warmer climate could rid him of this threatening cold. Contains tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece, (xv), 316 pp + 32 pp publisher's catalogue with 220 monochrome illustrations throughout. From 'The Hall Bushey Library' with indigo stamps to the half-title and first leaf of text, paper plate to the rear board, end papers cracked, rubbing to the covers, corners and edges, text block clean. Description: Signed by author on the verso of the front end paper. An uncommon travel book by Thomas Robert Dewar, 1st Baron Dewar, one of the founders of the Dewar whisky brand. Portrait frontis present with browning to the tissue guard. Spine ends and corners bumped. Light wear to hinges. Book is cocked but it's not bad. Boards are clean and the only significant flaw is a 2" line of staining from the top of the spine down to the R of Round in the title. Internally hinges lightly cracked but holding solid. There are no flaws of note in the nicely illustrated text. Not a common book and scarce signed. Postage will be confirmed when you enquire or order and for light or very heavy books will vary from the ABE quote which is based on a 1kg parcel. N.B. Postage to the USA will often be quite a bit less than the quote on ABE.
