Description: An exquisite example of what can be achieved by two great artists working together on the production of a privately printed book (which was never reproduced as a trade edition). This is number 156/250 and comes directly from The Estate of Ted Hughes. Essentially a "brand new" edition with some slight staining on the very last, blank, page.

Description: Super 8vo (11" x 6.125"), marbled paper spine and boards with paper title pieces printed in red and black at upper cover and spine, deckled edges. [1] half title; [3] title page; [5] dedicatory poem; [7-41] text and woodcuts; [43] pressmark and colophon; 2 blank leaves. Bookplate of Wyman Parker at lower left corner of front paste-down. Three brief lines of pencil notes at upper left of rear paste-down. CONDITION: Covers very good, light wear to extremities, contents near fine. One of 225 numbered copies, signed by Hughes and Baskin. This is copy 17. From the colophon: "Two hundred and fifty copies of this book were printed at The Gehenna Press, Lurley in Devon. The woodcuts were printed from the blocks; the paper is Dover, handmade at Maidstone, Kent, these copies are signed by the poet and the artist and are numbered one to two hundred twenty five. Twenty five copies have an additional suite of the woodcuts printed on a Japanese paper, signed and numbered I-XXV by the artist. Description: The sole UK printing published by The Gehenna Press, UK in 1981. Number '120' of only 250 copies issued. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a tiny amount of rubbing and a very small split to the extreme spine tips. Free from inscriptions and erasures. 'The woodcuts were printed from the blocks ; the paper is Dover, handmade at Maidstone, Kent, these copies are signed by the poet and artist and are numbered one to two hundred and twenty five.'. Leonard Baskin has provided five full page B/W woodcuts, a further one hand coloured and a further half page bird decoration to the limitation page. The book is protected in a removable Mylar archival cover. Loosely inserted are the 4 page publisher's Prospectus with a B/W woodcut and also a a very scarce promotional letter from Mark Ritchie at The Phaidon Press promoting this title and informing collectors that they had taken over the ownership of The Gehenna Press.
